Don't Cry When I'm Gone

This film tells the fascinating story of Wanda, a young woman who survived the Holocaust to become a celebrated Polish poet, songwriter and a TV personality. Sławomir Grunberg creates an insightful psychological portrait of a bohemian artist who loved life, loved to party and adored the attention of men. “Don’t cry when I am gone” is the title of one of the greatest hits of the 60s in Poland. Wanda wrote the lyrics to music composed by the very popular Italian musician Marino Marini. The song remains one of the most recognizable Polish tunes to this day. The film features Wanda's son Zygmunt and some of her closest friends reminiscing about her life, her little-known story of survival, and her often funny and moving eccentricities. This is a documentary, which celebrates an extraordinary woman's urge for life and an unrelenting pursuit of success and happiness. (In Polish with English subtitles)
